Day One 08
On July 28th here are the strategies we explored:
- Autograph Game
This is an icebreaker game that is used as an introductory activity. Available from the documents page. - Milling to the Music
This is a TRIBES strategy that provides movement and an opportunity for people to share their ideas in pairs or small groups. - Coat of Arms
This can be used as an introductory activity or as a graphic organizer for content areas. One example that was given was to use it to record information about Belize’s Independence Day. - Setting Agreements
This is a TRIBES strategy for setting rules or expectations for classes or workshops. - Jigsaw
This is a cooperative learning strategy that allows students to work in small groups. Accountability can be built in by using a recording strategy like 3-2-1. Information can be found at Jigsaw in ten easy steps. - 3-2-1
3 Write three sentences that explain the main idea.
2 Two things that you found interesting.
1 One question you still have.
More information can be found at 3-2-1 Strategy. - Group Inquiry
A TRIBES strategy that starts with small group work using Write-Pair-Share. Can be used for content areas. - Community Circle
A TRIBES strategy that has participants sitting in a circle and using a talking object. Limits should be put in place for how much each person can share. A right to pass is allowed. Ask participants who have passed at the end if they would like to share. - Write-Pair-Share (Think-Pair-Share)
Students write the answer to the questions on their own. Then they share their written ideas with a partner (allow students to modify their answers after this sharing) Finally each individual shares with the whole class. More information on Think-Pair-Share can be found at Just Read Now! - PMI matrix
Positive – Minus – Interesting
More information can be found at Mind Tools. - My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean
Participants switch from standing to sitting everytime there is a B word. Lyrics are available from KIDiddles.
